Stroke of Midnight
I did this elaborate piece for a friend's rubber mask company back in 1984. I used to be a madman with a pencil. That was before computers. I still love pencil though. The name 'Stroke of Midnight' took on a whole new meaning when the afore mentioned friend had to stay at my apartment for a few days in the fall of 1986, and my girlfriend woke up late at night to find him 'stroking it' on the floor in his sleeping bag.
It might also be mentioned that Rob Bottin got a little miffed when I showed him this piece. He felt that I was ripping off the design for 'Darkness' that we had just developed that summer for LEGEND. I hastened to enlighten him to the fact that I was merely doing my own take on Cernabog, the Demon from Disney's Night on Bald Mountain section in Fantasia. 'Darkness' had sprung from this same source. He really couldn't say much at that point.
