The Melting man
We had very little time to design this elaborate makeup. I think I had two or three days to do my renderings. As I recall, Bottin said "He falls into a vat of radioactive liquid and his skin melts off his bones like marshmallow sauce". I just went for it. I made his eyes look like they were stung by wasps, and his skin drooping off of his hands with the finger bones protruding in a couple of places.
It was a very 'pulp' take on the concept, but like all of the things that came out of Rob's shop in those years, it had the advantage of being brought to life by the performance of a very good actor, who took his role under all that rubber quite seriously.
