Darkness-painting
This is all I have to show for the weeks of design work I put into Darkness back in the summer of 1984. Come to think of it, Rob's shop was a bit Orwellian.
This image is taken from a poloroid I managed to sneak out of the place of a large acrylic painting I did of Darkness when he was pretty far along in the design stage. I think the sculpture of the makeup was being molded, so I did this painting to determine his coloration (we tried black, and even considered a pale white before settling on the classic devil-red), and to place a series of acetate overlays on top of, with various eye designs and teeth conformations. We tried every eye color possible. After attempting several different approaches to the mouth we opted for simple, elegant, vampire teeth. In the end, he had to be almost 'Devilishly handsome'.
