It was the summer of 1984. I had dropped out of Art Center because the money had run out and I needed a break. Even at 20 years old, I could tell that Art Center was a rip-off.
But my timing turned out to be good. On a lark I gave Rob Bottin a call, and he said 'Where have you been? I lost your number and I need an illustrator to help me out with this big Ridley Scott fantasy film".

I said "Okay, sure, I can start tomorrow", then reached for a fresh change of underwear.
