This was a storyboard frame that got out of hand as we tried to determine some of the ways in which his flesh would be torn apart. It was hard to keep sight of how much damage a human being could take and still keep functioning.

As you can see throughout these photos, I tried diferent hair and beard styles on Caveizal. Originally Mel thought he wanted a slightly different take on Jesus, with perhaps, more unique and interesting hair syles, perhaps tribally specific braiding, A pony tail, maybe a cleft beard.

As with all of the phtos in thie sequence, I started with a picture of Jim Caveizal we took in the shop, and I slowly took him through the process of brutalizing that he was to receive throughout the film.
